About LinkUnzip
A free, open-source tool that extracts zips straight from links, built in the open on GitHub.
Why it exists
To unpack a zip from the internet you normally download all of it first. Your disk needs room for the zip and the files, and you wait for the whole archive even when you only need one folder. LinkUnzip skips both.
It reads the zip's index from the end of the file, shows you what is inside and what it will cost, then downloads only the parts it needs and writes the files straight into a folder. How it works explains the details.
Who makes it
LinkUnzip is made by an independent developer, CincaAlex on GitHub. Everything happens in the public repository: the code, the releases, the changelog and the bug reports.
How it is made
- No account, no ads, no tracking. Not in the extension, not in the helper and not on this site.
- Measured numbers only. Every figure on this site comes from a real run on public archives, with the archive named.
- Limits said plainly. What LinkUnzip doesn't do yet is on the home page and in the FAQ.
- Every archive treated as untrusted. See safety.
Open source
LinkUnzip is free software: you can redistribute it and change it under the terms of the GNU General Public License, version 3 or any later version. It comes with no warranty. Read the licence or read the code. Bug reports, ideas and pull requests are welcome.
